Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30

Quite a long name for a car seat, but then again it does so much. The Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 debuted earlier this year as a replacement for Peg's previous SIP (Side Impact Protection) seat. This one holds a baby up to 30 lbs and can be used with or without the base. I know a lot of people out there are wondering "why do I need a seat like that?"

Well, first off it's recommended that a baby be rear-facing for the first year of their life. Many babies hit the 22 lb mark (which most infant end at) before one year. So this is much more convenient than buying another seat until later. And it also allows you to take a sleeping child into a restaurant or shopping center in a carrier a lot longer. Otherwise you end up holding them the entire time.

As for using it without a base, that can be very helpful in traveling or for families with two cars. Instead of buying an extra base, you can put the seat in the other car and there you have it.

Most child injuries are caused by side-collisions, believe it or not. Newborn babies in particular are at risk for side crashes, as their heads can be shaken back and forth, thus giving them a condition similar to shaken baby syndrome. Which leads us to the Peg's Side Impact Protection, also known as the wings at the top and bottom that are made of special impact foam. These protect the head and torso from trauma during a wreck by absorbing the energy, just as a bicycle helmet does. And just so you know, Peg's system exceeds the most stringent SIP safety test in the world.

Don't worry if the seat is a bit heavy. All the good ones are. You don't want a light car seat, as it won't have as many features. But the best part of all: It came fully assembled! Now that I love. There is nothing more frustrating than putting baby gear together.

Bravo, Peg.
